Get Qualified NW is a scheme for the whole of the North West Region. Get Qualified NW is funded by European Social Fund (ESF) and the Learning & Skills Council and administered by the University of Cumbria. I would advise you to identify as many suitable candidates to apply for Get Qualified NW as this has real potential to help develop level 2 and level 3 coaches and places are limited. The project provides up to 60% funding (funding will only be given on the successful completion of the course!), but is capped at £200 for level 2 and £300 for level 3 courses. Coaches MUST be certificated before 1st July 2011 to release funding and due to the application process, time constraints, complexity of level 3 courses you need to be identifying these coaches now. Also the potential coach must be 19 yrs of age and NOT be in full time education. Places are not guaranteed they go through an internal process. The scheme is working with a number of sports (see attached form) and these will be the courses that are currently available. As sports are added etc I shall keep you updated. There is an online application form that individuals need to complete and submit which can be found on the link below. However, looking at the online form there are some things you need to be aware of. The individual needs to have booked onto the course and know the exact name of the course, the name of the training provider / National Governing Body and the exact dates and cost of the course. So I think that support using this form is needed. As a part of the scheme individuals are offered the opportunity to join Coach Web and a free mentoring scheme run by the National Skills Academy which will offer individual support for individual coaches (although this scheme is not running yet and is only for a percentage of coaches that are chosen, I am not sure how this works yet as it has not yet been set up). The mentoring scheme is funded through CIF just for your information. Please note that this scheme is for all coaches not just voluntary coaches but paid coaches also, but bear in mind that if coach’s club or employer has received over €200,000 ESF funds for anything across the board over the last 3 years they might not be eligible for funding. Whilst this isn’t a problem for clubs etc, it might be something you need to consider for coaches employed by your local authority. The University will follow this up with employers once individuals have applied.
